Description
At the turn of the 16th Century, King Manuel I commissioned Portugal’s greatest artisans to construct grandiose buildings. After completing the Palaces of Evora and Sintra, the king sought to build a summer pavilion to honor the most famous members of the royal family. This construction was intended for the most talented artisans — whose skills meet the splendor that the royal family deserves. Sadly, King Manuel I died before construction ever began. In Azul: Summer Pavilion, players return to Portugal to accomplish the task that never began. As a master artisan, you must use the finest materials to create the summer pavilion while carefully avoiding wasting supplies. Only the best will rise to the challenge to honor the Portuguese royal family.

Azul is an excellent game series, and it is my opinion that Summer Pavilion (which is the third in the series) is the best. You do not need the previous games at all, as they are not sequels, but each a standalone game. And you also do not need to just get one either, as they are different enough to each get to the table. The game is easy to learn and begin playing. It is fast placed, and thinky in all the right ways. My wife and I are full time RVers, and this game is on our table a lot. It is my wife’s favorite game right now as well as one of mine. And we usually play 2-3 games at a time when we play. The quality of the components are excellent. The game moves between a drafting game, and then a puzzle game, in recurring phases. There is a little take-that in how you draft, and yet not nearly enough to break up a marriage. :)This is a game that will remain in our rotation. We just love it, and highly recommend it to others.

Azul – Summer Pavilion is a great challenging game. More flexibility than its predecessor and the tiles are great quality. Plays well from 2-4 players.

Been playing this game for a couple of years now & love it. It’s a well-made, beautiful, abstract strategy game. Because it offers more complexity than the original, it’s our favorite of the trilogy of Azul games. We bought this as a replacement because we gave ours to our daughter so we could play it with them when we visit.

We bought the original Azul a few years ago and have really enjoyed playing it, so when my brother-in-law moved into his new house, we got him this summer pavilion edition as a housewarming gift. We haven’t played it with him yet, but it seems like a fun version. Everything was great with the packaging, this is the actual game not just an expansion pack

My husband and I are HUGE fans of the original Azul. It’s easy to play a quick game. It’s easy to get our parents to play with us, or people who are not “board game people”. However, we also love a bit of strategy to our games…and this hit the spot! It’s got the same aesthetic as Azul, but with much more meat to it. We played it twice as soon as it was delivered and we can’t wait to play it again! You may have a harder time using it as an intro game, as we use Azul for, but for you or your friends who already love Azul, GET THIS!!! It’s still beautiful, sensory pleasing, adds so much more to Azul and fixes the bugs in the Azul sequel.
