From the manufacturer
Unstable Unicorns is a strategic card game about everyone’s two favorite things: Destruction & Unicorns.
The goal of Unstable Unicorns is to be the first person to collect seven Unicorns in your play area, also known as your Stable. Use Magic, Instant, Upgrade, and Downgrade cards to hinder your opponents’ progress and destroy their Unicorns. But beware — each player has all of these tools at their disposal as well, and you may just find your plans foiled by a well-played “Neigh!” card. Get ready to destroy your friendships…but in a good way.
In 2017, Unstable Unicorns became one of the top 100 most backed Kickstarter projects of all time, and in 2019, the game won the People’s Choice Award for Toy of the Year. We are super proud to have created a game that allows people to share meaningful experiences while actively working to screw each other over.

Build a Unicorn Army
The goal of Unstable Unicorns is simple: be the first player to collect 7 Unicorns. Where things get tricky is when you realize your opponents are trying to do the same thing while working to destroy you.

Play Upgrades and Downgrades
You can also play Upgrade cards to beef up your defenses against your opponents, and you can play Downgrade cards to halt their progress (and probably infuriate them).

Use Your Magic
Your magic cards have powerful one-time use effects that can help tip the odds in your favor. Some give you benefits like extra cards, while others are utterly destructive to other players.

Stop Other Players With a Neigh!
Not so fast! Neigh cards can be played instantly to prevent someone else from playing a card. Keep these tucked up your sleeve until the perfect opportunity to foil your opponents!

I recently stumbled upon the enchanting world of Unstable Unicorns, and what a delightful discovery it has been! This card game effortlessly earns its five stars with its perfect blend of simplicity and pure, unadulterated fun.Learning the game was an absolute breeze. The instructions are crystal clear, and the mechanics are intuitive, making it accessible for both seasoned gamers and those new to the tabletop scene. Within minutes, my friends and I were caught up in the whimsical realm of magical unicorns, strategy, and laughter. The gameplay itself is an exhilarating rollercoaster of emotions. The sheer variety of unicorn cards, each with its unique abilities and characteristics, keeps every round fresh and exciting. The clever interplay of strategy and chance ensures that no two games are alike. You’ll find yourself engaged in strategic planning one moment and reveling in the unpredictable chaos of unicorn mayhem the next. What truly sets Unstable Unicorns apart is its ability to create moments of genuine hilarity. The table erupts with laughter as you sabotage your opponents’ plans, protect your own unicorns, and unleash the outrageous powers of your mythical creatures. It’s a guaranteed recipe for unforgettable memories and belly-aching laughter.Whether you’re hosting a game night, looking for an icebreaker at a party, or just seeking a lighthearted way to unwind, Unstable Unicorns is an absolute gem. The artwork is charming, the gameplay is engaging, and the laughter is infectious. This game has swiftly become a staple in my collection, and I can’t wait to introduce it to even more friends. In short, Unstable Unicorns deserves every one of its five stars. It’s a must-have for anyone who craves an easy-to-learn, outrageously fun card game that promises endless entertainment and a dash of enchantment. Kudos to the creators for bringing such a magical experience to our game nights! 🦄✨

I absolutely love this game. Let me explain:Many complain about the “setup” and instructions. There is virtually no setup to this game. There are white cards that you don’t shuffle into the black deck. You choose one of the white cards. The end. Then it’s just like any other card game as far as shuffling and dealing. There are even charts in the instructions. If you’ve ever played a strategy or RPG card game before, you’ll be fine. If not… I would think you would still be fine…? Maybe you have issues with maps too?The instructions… well, I don’t know how they would make them any easier, honestly. They are mind boggling at first, yes. But as any good teacher would attest, there are some things that you have to do in order to understand, and reading about it won’t teach. Once you start playing and get the flow, return back to the instructions when you’re unsure of something. Now, another thing I noticed in the reviews is that people are upset it’s inappropriate for children. On my box, it says very clearly “ages 14+”. Now, I did play with my 12 year old and I didn’t find a problem. I realize I do not have the first edition. Two things about that: check it out before you play with your kid, since it does say 14 and up; and there are no truly inappropriate cards in the second edition. The only thing is that some unicorns kill other unicorns… so if you don’t want your kid playing a game where they cause imaginary death to imaginary animals (and I get that), then don’t play with kids. I find it a perfect tweet and teen game, and I actually really enjoy this game as well. This game reminded me how much I loved these types of games. I am SO pleased with the purchase.Besides game play, the cards are well drawn and colorful, and I love that they color-coded the corners to show you easily what type of card it is. That makes the cards that allow you to search the deck so much easier to execute, and the instructions on types of cards also. But the packaging is so great! It is easy to store, it is cute, and there is room for more cards if you buy expansions.Overall, I give this game 5/5 stars. Honestly, I would give it an extra star if I could. It is well-made and I’m excited to play more and see what happens. There is one section of the instructions that haven’t even come into play yet, so I want to keep playing to see when I get a hand that triggers this.

Unstable Unicorns is a fun, easy to learn, card game great for casual game nights.

tl;dr I played Exploding Kittens for the first time a few weeks after I’d bought Unstable Unicorns. I was expecting Unicorns to be a bad knock-off of Kittens, just based on artwork and stuff, so I was prepared to be impressed. It turns out that Exploding Kittens kind of sucked and lacked good gameplay, whereas Unicorns was very well made and a lot of fun.Instructions could have been more clear though. We found the game a little hard to figure out at first, but it was great once we got the hang of it.

We bought explosion kitty from the same company before, but this one is so much more fun. It has lots of ways to win and attack other players. The instruction is a little confusing, especially for the first time player. But once played one round, everything is straightforward.

First played this strategy-style card game at a local brewery and my partner and I loved it! We ended up ordering it (super cheap!) Since then have played it a handful of times just us two and with a friend. It’s a lot of fun!

Let me start off by saying I love games but am very picky in how I spend my time. This game is just wow! I decided to by the expansion pack and it has been fantastic for nights of fun, laughter, and friendly competition. There definitely is a learning curve and debates on certain rules that we have to look up, but well worth it for the fun. Must buy!

This is a really fun game, some rules might be debatable per each family but I really love this game.

I got this game and gifted it to my sister and brother-in-law. We have since played this game about a half dozen times, which I guess is a good sign haha. It’s a lot of fun for anyone who enjoys strategy card games and its very re-playable and easy to travel with. However, gameplay can easily be a couple hours in length and there are a handful of fringe scenarios that arise which the outcome seems open for interpretation as the rules seem have a bit of a gray area. If there wasn’t any of these fringe cases where some players believe the rules to indicate one outcome but other players interpreting it differently, I would have given 5 stars, but due to this occasional gray area of the rules, 4 stars is the highest I feel I can award this game
